Advice from the night you were set apart
Mom:
My advice to you was to be humble. The church website about humility says this:
To be humble is to recognize gratefully our dependence on the Lord—to understand that we have constant need for His support. Humility is an acknowledgment that our talents and abilities are gifts from God. It is not a sign of weakness, timidity, or fear; it is an indication that we know where our true strength lies. We can be both humble and fearless. We can be both humble and courageous.
My thought was to advise you to remember that you have something to learn from everyone you meet.
Dad:
Dad said to remember the big picture of why you are serving a mission. Programs and key indicators are not the mission. Of course we need organization and we need to keep rules, but the real purpose of serving a mission is to share the gospel. When times are tough, remind yourself of your purpose.
Grandma:
Grandma said that she is so proud of you. She said you are such an effervescent person! Be yourself, that will be an asset to you. Grandpa would be so proud! Prayer will get you through, and be sure to ask for a priesthood blessing if you need extra help. (Write your parents!)
Chloe:
Remember to doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith. Remember your feelings and take the time to re-read your own farewell talk. President Nelson has reminded us in the spring 2018 General Conference to cultivate personal revelation, and Chloe advised that you focus on developing your ability to recognize and act on personal revelation.
Steve:
When Steven Facetime-d you he told you to have fun! He said that he knows that you have been sent to Wellington because you are the right person to serve there at this time, and you will fulfill your mission by being yourself. Yes, there will be hard work, but it can be fun at the same time!
Jaclyn:
Jaclyn added her advice to the notes the day you left. She said: The Spirit won't always tell you to do exactly what your mission president says and that's okay, he makes mistakes too and it's not a virtue to follow him if the Spirit tells you something else.
